Biking around Vang Vieng, Laos
As one of the most popular stops for travelers in this part of the world, Vang Vieng has a lot to offer.
- It’s a city along the Nam Song River in Laos, surrounded by towering mountains. After a long, hard ride go get there, it’s well worth a couple of days to relax and unwind.
There are agencies that offer hundreds of activities
like canoeing, climbing, hot air balloon rides and spelunking to name a few. There are also fantastic restaurants overlooking the river and accommodation anywhere from hostels to 5 star hotels.

- In my opinion, Vang Vieng is a paradise of fun. You can lay in a tube and float along the river all day while stopping at riverside bars and sipping the time away. There are parties happening day and night, and the whole place has a great feel to it.
- But don’t worry if you’re not the party type, this is still a place you don’t want to miss. There are fantastic caves to explore with beautiful pools. You can stop in and hang out with the local fishermen and farmers and soak in the beauty of the countryside here.
After a hard ride into town “Wild Trail”, we recommend leaving the bicycle in your room and renting a motorbike / scooter for a couple of days.
Oh yeah, and eat lots of food!
- It’s time to let the lactic acid flow out and put the calories back in. You don’t need to take any tours, just go exploring on your own. There are maps available at the rental shops that will show you how to get to the caves etc.
One last thing you’ve got to do here. Relax with a delicious ‘Lao Beer’ on a riverfront balcony as the sun gives up for the day. What a sight!
Enjoy!
